Parallel Exit presents MOVE IT! – a free evening of
Physical and Visual Theatre

Parallel Exit, New York City’s award-winning physical theatre company, offers audiences a free opportunity to see some of New York’s most exciting physical and visual theatre artists in MOVE IT! Featuring dance-theatre from Tricia Brouk, puppetry from Drama of Works, clowning from Adam Gertsacov, comedic dance from performer Mark Gindick with choreographer Wendy Seyb, puppetry from Anna Kiraly, and juggling and clowning from Brent McCoy, MOVE IT! is presented at HERE Arts Center on Tuesday April 24th, at 7:00pm.

Parallel Exit launched MOVE IT! in the fall of 2006 in order to support and promote the work of quality physical theatre artists and companies in New York City. This performance series appears throughout the year to invite audiences to experience the diversity and excitement of physical and visual theatre artists working in dance-theatre, mime, puppetry, clown, and circus.

Since 1993, the OBIE-winning HERE Arts Center has been one of New York’s premier arts organizations and a leader in the field of presenting new, hybrid performance work. Under the executive and artistic leadership of Kristin Marting, HERE has served 11,000 emerging to mid-career artists developing work that does not fit into a conventional programming agenda. Examples include The Vagina Monologues, Basil Twist’s Symphonie Fantastique, Hazelle Goodman’s On Edge and Trey Lyford & Geoff Sobelle’s all wear bowlers. Work presented at HERE has garnered 10 OBIE awards, an OBIE grant for artistic achievement, three Drama Desk nominations, two Berrilla Kerr Awards, two NY Innovative Theatre Awards and a Pulitzer Prize nomination. Recently, HERE Executive Director Kristin Marting was honored with a 2005 BAX10 Award for Arts Managers. In 2005, HERE purchased its long-time home as part of a five-year “Secure HERE’s Future” campaign. HERE’s 2006 season includes 4 original multidisciplinary productions, 15 projects in development by resident artists and two festivals featuring new work.

HERE supports the work of artists at all stages in their careers through full productions, artist residency programs, festivals, and subsidized performance and rehearsal space. All work at HERE is curated based on the strength and uniqueness of the artist’s vision. This production is being presented through HERE’s Supported Artist Program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical and administrative support.

MOVE IT! is a FREE performance series hosted by the New York City Physical Theatre Network.  This network aims to support and promote the work of quality physical theatre artists and companies, and invite audiences to experience the diversity and excitement of physical theatre in NYC.  This network was launched in July 2006, and includes artists working in physical theatre, dance-theatre, mime, puppetry, clown, and circus.
